Belize, formerly know as British Honduras, is a small Central American country located to the south of Mexico and east of Guatemala. A British territory for over 150 years, full independence was gained in 1981. The country is approximately the size of Massachusetts, with a population of around 300,000 consisting of a wide array of people and ethnic groups.

The country is Caribbean in “flavour”, rather than Latin like the neighbouring countries. The official language is English.

Primarily a tropical rain forest, southern Belize has two seasons, a rainy one and a dry one. During the rainy season (June to November), rainfall can be as high as 150 inches with high humidity.

Belize, by and large, is an underdeveloped country, with the south being further behind in its progress. The northern part of the country relies heavily on tourism; the southern part depends on timber and agriculture and is know as “the forgotten land”.

Toledo Christian Academy is located in the Toledo District of Belize, the southernmost district.
